Question: What do you view as a particular strength of yours? What do you view as a particular weakness? Would friends and family share your view?
I believe my particular strength is an open attitude to new opportunities and an ability to have an impact on an organization. For instance, our company typically used to have short term relations with our suppliers based on price discussions only. When I started my job as sales manager, I first analyzed the suppliers market and identified longterm partnership opportunities with our suppliers. Thanks to these relationships, we have been able to save over $2.5 million in development costs and dramatically improve the quality of our products.
My particular weakness is my lack of patience in explaining the same thing over and over again when people are not paying attention. I can easily understand that I need to repeat myself if I am not understood, but I expect others to pay full attention when interacting. Having become aware of this reaction, I have worked hard to identify those times when I should be more open and receptive. I also try to be aware of my audience and adapt my language and tone when necessary. For instance, in a recent meeting with the supply department I went over the same topic from different angles and distributed written information to ensure that my explanations were better understood. Getting my friends', relatives' or colleagues' opinions on my character is critical to me: it helps me to better understand how I am perceived and how I can improve my position in the firm. At work, it also gives me a benchmark for future performances. I am therefore confident my relatives and colleagues would share this view.
